Inteview/ Khary Durgans

7/23/2014
Introducing Khary Durgans; a young guy with a sick flow with branding of a yellow raincoat. Lyrics of his takes the listener on a deep journey to his life, thoughts and cool vibes. Get to know Khary below.

LYFE:Who is Khary Durgans?

KHARY:A dope rapper from Providence, RI that now lives in Brooklyn. I started rapping in high school with my brother but eventually found I my own sound.

LYFE:What genre/ who musically influences you?

KHARY:Hip-Hop is my biggest influence but I really like all types of music. I’m a sucker for anything mellow/ambient that has deep lyrics. Lupe Fiasco, K-os, and Kanye West were the first artist to really reach me as a youth. Often feels like I grew up through music.

LYFE:What's with the yellow raincoat? Form of branding?

KHARY:The raincoat started about 4 years ago when I saw one in an army navy store. No clue why at that moment, but I just thought it was so dope so I had to buy it. My homie that was with me when I bought it thought I was crazy but something weird that I can’t describe came over me. About 2 years ago I started wearing it at shows and it became branding when I moved to New York. I had to find a way that I could be remembered in a city so big. Turned out it was already under my nose. Happened so naturally to me. Yellow is a humble color that at the same time says “LOOK AT ME”.

INTERVIEW x SEAN TAILOR

6/11/2014
While attending Art Institute with this guy I didn't like him. No seriously I didn't. The talent he had with Adobe Illustrator pissed me off. I was like; "why is he even in this school; he clearly has it down packed".
After I mentioned it to him after a couple months he  humorously laughed; taking it as a joke while I had a serious blank look on my face.
I had liked how his designs gave me street edge vibe and how unconventional it is. You just never know what he going to design next.
I said to him; "design a t-shirt design for LYFE and what it means to you." This guy.. as usual killed it. The shirt will be for sale on a later date and.... I just might show you the design.
Now let's jump into this interview with Sean.

LYFE: What is your creative venture you do?
I am a Graphic Designer. specializing in logo design & typography.

LYFE: When did you start designing?
I began creating my first couple of pieces around the age of 13 & slowly continued teaching myself new techniques

LYFE: Did you go to school for design? /was it worth it?
Well yes & no. the first school I attended was Atlanta Technical College in of course Atlanta ga, lol. I studied visual communications. Then sometime after that I began attending the Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur. There, I would say I discovered exactly what type of designer I was.

LYFE: Do you think for designers its important to go to school?
SEAN: Honestly I feel like school isn't for everyone. And unfortunately society says that we need diplomas. But truthfully an artists skill is shown

LYFE: What is your design style and  how did it come to be?
SEAN: I would describe it as like a sophisticated urban swank, in a sense. lol

LYFE: Your a freelance graphic designer; is it difficult to get work?
SEAN: Actually sometimes it is. especially when you're pushing your work on your own. but overall it's all on your determination and drive to get work. but to be real, one thing I hate. (& I think most can agree). is it's unbelievable what people expect to get, & what they expect to pay for it. lol it's crazy.

LYFE:  Whats your process when your about to create a logo?
SEAN:  My process though I know it's the taught way of doing things is just hoping on the board (Adobe Illustrator) and just feel it. feel whatever project I'm working on in a sense.

INTERVIEW x MARC GRIFFIN

5/07/2014
When I heard Marc's mixtape "Marc Madness" my mouth dropped. My reaction was why the heck isn't he signed to Reach Records. After then I knew I wanted to interview him. Also stay tuned for a video interview this week with Marc.

LYFE: Who is Mr Marc Griffin?
MARC: I am a child of God who ran or did my own thing, but now I'm just here with God wanting to learn how to love. I've experienced and been through a lot even at my age but God loved me enough to keep me. I'm just a grateful, forgiven sinner.

LYFE:Your genre of music is classified as Christian hip-hop. What drew you to this genre? MARC:As of right now I don't focus too much on Genres because my music is very, very diverse and I believe that it was given to me to touch all different types of people of different backgrounds. What drew me is the fact that God changed me and with that He changed my music. I couldn't be a changed person but my music still be of the same content right?

LYFE:Your sound reminds me off the 116 Clique of Reach Records. Is it accidental ?
MARC:I wouldn't call it an accident. I started doing my street gospel music back in 2008 and I never knew about the group but I was introduced to the Cross Movement's music back in 08-09. I truly appreciate 116 and all they do we are brothers and we're on the same team! My music comes from my experience and from other people's experience around me and it also comes from my personality! I just write from who I am but to hear that I remind someone of 116 is a compliment!

LYFE:Why music verses other ventures?
MARC:I started writing when I was nine and it was a form of expression. It has always been my passion so I want to stay true to who I am and what I know. I could go to school to become a doctor, but is that my dream? Is that what God has given me to do?

LYFE:What is your goal for your career?
MARC:To continue to do what I am doing with my music but on a much broader scale. Also to continue my poetry, speaking, acting, writing, and to write for others. I want to be able to help other people accomplish their goals.

Interview/Sydney Nicole

2/18/2013
Sydney
Welcome to a new week everyone! To start off the week is an Interview with an Atlanta Stylist named Sydney Nicole. She is an assistant of celebrity stylist MiddleMan Fresh but this girl has dreams of her own. Her ambition and faith in Christ has bought her to where she is today and further. After witnessing how inspirational and determined she is I knew I wanted to interview her. Dive in to get to know Sydney and her work on this interview on LYFE.

LYFE:Who is Sydney Nicole?

Sydney:-I am a go getter, a hard worker, a God fearing woman, a wardrobe stylist, a visionary.I am everything God created me to be in this life.

LYFE:How did you get your start into fashion?
-Sydney:Modeling gave me my start with fashion. I like to say that my test shoot for Vibe Magazine was the first day of the rest of my life.  That is when great things began to happen for me in the fashion world, I base it solely off of the people that I met and my resources.

LYFE:Why fashion?
Sydney:I am not great with words, at all.  I find myself to be very shy, though I am the most extroverted person anyone could ever meet.  Fashion helps me express my thoughts, my perspective, my feelings.  Everything that has a word to describe it, I let fashion speak in its place.

LYFE:What is a day like for you?

Sydney:A day for me is HECTIC! I start my day with prayer and meditation I then check my e-mails, if time is available I may make me some breakfast which is rare but when I can I take full advantage.  I then go to the showroom; Studio 11 where I am the assistant to a celebrity stylist there we meet and consult with clients, book jobs, etc if we don’t have a job to do already.  After my work has been done at the showroom I focus on my own personal projects. I check my e-mails one final time I pray then prepare myself for another day.  I can’t say my days are all the same due to the fact that things come up, schedules change, etc. It seems like a lot, well it is a lot but I love it.

Hey LYFE readers, I'm bringing to you another interview. This time it's one on D.love of IClub. Remember the interview with Young Nova? Yea well they are in the same brand together and it's time you know who he is.  Take a look at the interview.D.love is apart of a group called Fif Floor and is soon to release an album. Check out their latest video and interview below.

LYFE:How did you come up with the name D.Love?
D.LOVE: Very simple, my first initial and my last name.  When I began rapping I tried to come up with something catchy that fit my personality.  After a while I realized nothing is cooler or fits me more than my birth given name.

LYFE: You're apart of a group called "International Club" along with Young Nova; How did this brand come about?
D.LOVE:We basically wanted to merge the efforts of everyone in our movement.  The Fif Floor was a group and Young Nova was a solo artist. Cav came up with the name International Club and the rest is history.

LYFE:In IClub there's a group called "Fif Floor" which you are apart of. What sound does the group have?
Our sound is a “futuristic vintage.”  We take the elements that hip-hop was built on and make it more modern.  Our tracks are smooth and soulful with a dab of fun.

LYFE:Who are the members and style taste?
D.LOVE:I’m D.Love My style is simple and soulful.  I like basic beats with a lot energy.  Cav style is a little more complex he uses a lot of breakdown.  Doe is like a mix between the two but a little more up tempo.  Our taste is urban and classy in one.

LYFE:What inspires the group to press on?
D.LOVE:Our love for music fashion and art.  Also more importantly we all have similar goals in life coming from low-income backgrounds.

LYFE:What are the groups influences?
D.LOVE: MUSIC AND FASHION.  Early 90s hip-hop for sure but we love it all pop, rap, r&b everything.

Interview /Young Nova

11/05/2012

The first time I saw Young Nova was at the Clayton State Decade of Fashion Show. He had a great sense of style which caught my attention. He wore a black button down shirt with a camo bowtie and fitted cap skinny jeans and jordans yes I remember ( not in a stalker way) but it was pretty dope so I decided to give him a listen. Then I said to myself hmm dude is pretty decent and wrote down his twitter, commended him on his performance. Some days after we made this photo shoot happen. Nova is cool dude who is driven and passionate about his craft. No Slacking going on on his end.He even gave me a exclusive track just for yall to listen too as a treat. Take a listen after the interview and follow him too of course.

LYFE:How did the name Young Nova come along?
NOVA: I stumbled upon the word Nova in the dictionary when I was looking up rap names, and I noticed it meant A star that suddenly becomes much brighter and gradually returns to its original brightness and I believe that describes me.

LYFE:Why did you choose rap out of other creative ventures?
NOVA: I chose rap because out of all the outlets I use to express myself Hip-Hop is what I love to do the most and I like the challenge of coming up with clever and creative metaphors and flows and that is always fun.Plus I'm pretty good at it,If I say so myself.lol.Just kidding.Music is also one of the biggest platforms there is to touch the masses and get a message out.

3 Shades Of Nicole:Eclectic Pop

10/22/2012
Do you remember Nicole? We paired up to do this segment called 3 Shades of Nicole. It's where we would shoot 3 looks and it would show 3 different sides of her. Each week I'll post a side of her. Also Q&A's to get to know her more. Cool right? When I met up with her at Little 5 Points I loved her outfit from the start and can tell it was going to be a fun experience. We found an awesome graffiti wall that captured us. From the first shot I loved the shoot already. I was quite skeptical of it being shot at night but it turned out great;so great I wouldn't mind doing my shoots at night. Well enough of the blah talk take a look see these photos and answers yea? Also see rest of the photos here and more after the jump

LYFE:What inspires your style?
NICOLE:
My style is influenced by my background (from New York, Guyanese mother and Nigerian father). I've went through different phases of inspiration for my style and now it's more refined, effortless and easily adaptive. People always assume I am from California or New York.
LYFE:If you had to sum up the style of this outfit what would it be?
NICOLE:
Summing up my outfit I would describe it as Eclectic Pop! Its a bit funky with the hi-low see through top that I customized.

Then I paired with one of my favorite floral skirts which I layered with a tutu type skirt underneath. You can't forget
the thigh highs, cute straw hat, killer yellow shoes and Nik_Gold Accessories! It's different fun, fashion forward and a little Japanese Anime.
LYFE:Where do you find your inspiration for your style?
NICOLE:I find inspiration for my style everywhere. From walking through the city streets, on the internet browsing or just something out
that catches my eye including patterns, art, colors and sometimes just a vibe or aura I receive.

LYFE:What are must haves in Nicole's closet?
Some must haves in my closest are heels, (I have over 50 pair and growing) I have to have the best fitting pair of jeans (I may not wear jeans a lot but having a great pair is essential) Also a stylish blazer or jacket like my moto crop jacket I bought from Karmaloop a couple of years ago and it's still rocking.

Interview/Prince Fool

8/14/2012
Remember I told you about an interview coming up with this guy? Here he is; by the name of Prince Fool. Who is he?Well we got together along with his manager;Mike to make this interview happen after I took a listen to his music. It's not your typical music; it has a interesting sound and has a good message. So dive in and get to know him a bit.

LYFE:  Who is Prince Fool & how was your name chosen?

PF:Prince Fool is your everyday average guy.I chose my name mainly because I didn't want a stage name that strayed too far away from my real name. I got the idea from Kendrick Lamar; who's my favorite rapper right now. I felt like he had a valid views on stage names.

LYFE: Out of other creative ventures, why music?
PF:I make music because simply I feel like I'm good at it thanks to God of course. I also have a passion for A1 skating.

LYFE:How did you decide on your musical sound?
PF: Actually I took all the music that influences me and fused them together. Some of the artists I listen too are J.cole,Kid Cudi, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, MGMT, Maroon 5, Jay-z,  and WizKhalifa.

LYFE: Where does your inspiration come from?
PF:My inspiration comes from everyday life and the relentless pursuit for success.

LYFE:What overall message you want to send to your listeners?
PF:I want to show people I'm not far from who they are;just a regular human being. Same thing with all these other rappers because I feel like we put them on to high of a pedastool as if they are some sort of Gods. I also wanna show people you can fuse different music to make somthing everyone can vibe too.

LYFE:What is missing in the music industry that Prince Fool can bring to the game?
PF: Really all I want to do is share my ideas on life and vent a little. (laughs out loud)

LYFE:What would be your advice to those inspired to be in the music career?
PF: Stay true, stay humble, stay loyal don't ever break these rules and you should be good. Also most importantly use common sense and networking; do lots of it.

LYFE: What are your aspirations for your career?

PF: My aspirations for my career would have to be going as far as I can go in all aspects of my life including skating, making music, and making money to take care of my family. Whats really important to me is doing all this while maintaining my down to earth demeanor.

LYFE: What is your fashion style?
PF:I would have to say my fashion style is really sparratic sometimes. I like to dressed up but at most times I like to wear old clothes I feel comfortable in. I love wearing weird accessories that make people stare; nothing to crazy just somthing you wouldn't usually see. Things you have to make yourself our go through a lot to find.

Thanks Prince Fool for doing this interview & his manager Mike who help make this happen.
Prince Fool will soon be dropping his mixtape ; keep a look out for that until then follow him on twitter. Check out his recent youtube video, it has a cool vibe and kinda candid you know?

Interview/ Tucker

4/17/2012

Yes! Finally the time has come for the interview I've been excited about for the past couple of days. Ladies & Gents I introduce Tucker. A Media Arts & Animation major at Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur. When I met him I became fascinated with his aspirations for his future and has a different opinion on what style is. Don't you love his outfit by the way? Anyway. I thought it was time for an interview with this guy. Here we go :)

LYFE:You’re majoring in Media Art & Animation, Why?

Tucker: Well I'm a talented artist and I've always wanted to make my own graphic novels but I actually wanted to major in Graphic Design, Fashion Design, or Video and Film. I feel like I would be really dope at those majors.

LYFE:What is it about design that stirs you up?

Tucker: I don't know, something about being able to manipulate any image and make something out of it is just so cool to me! Like, on my spare time I make mixtape or album covers and posters and flyers and stuff and I'm super dope. And not even just Photoshop, I draw so programs like Illustrator would be so much more helpful in my artwork to look professional. The level Photoshop can take your work from is crazy, that's why I dig it so much.

LYFE:Your designs are unique & unexpected; & where does your inspiration come from?

Tucker: Thank you, my inspiration comes from a couple of things. Well design wise, I get mine from ancient Egyptian paintings, writing, architecture, and mythology or from the Renaissance Era with Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, you know some of the main artist and thinkers of the era. I even like their architecture. But on a more personal level, inspiration comes from deep emotions like stress or angry and music, stuff like that.

LYFE:You have a future brand your working on, can you tell me about that.

Tucker: Yeah, I have a brand I'm working on called C.O.O.L. Kids", which stands for Creating Our Own Legacy, and a few other side projects with a few of my friends. As far as C.O.O.L. Kids go I've been working on this brand for a while, about 5 years now. This brand main focus is urban culture, everyone that we work with has some unique creative input on our culture. I'm also working with a new brand called "Trippy", it's an up and coming graphic tee brand. Everything is going good too! It's crazy!

LYFE: There is something you have been representing and is considered controversial, Can you elaborate on that and motive for it?

Tucker: In all my photos, I'm rocking a necklace with the pyramid and the All Seeing Eye carved in wood. You can find the image on the back of the one-dollar bill. Everything people know about The All Seeing Eye is usually related to the "Illuminati" which in a way is true, but for a negative reason. People think the Illuminati is and underground evil organization that's trying to take over the world but it's not. People tend to become afraid of things they don't know. The All Seeing Eye is a symbol of truth. Now a day you can't believe what you see or hear anymore, you have to believe what your heart tells you. Humans have the strangest ability to sense when something isn't right. It's all about having an open mind and doing your research.

LYFE: What is your style regarding fashion & design?

Tucker: Fashion wise, I have a very old school taste. I love the whole old school hip-hop scene like, LL Cool J and Run DMC, Big Daddy Kane, people like that. But currently my style has been the European style. As far as design goes, I create youthful, honest, and energetic designs. Something about being young with an old spirit is dope to me.

LYFE: We all have aspirations or goals in our life; what is yours for yourself & future brand?

Tucker: Well I've always wants to inspire someone or a group of people to do whatever they wanted to do as long as it made them happy. I always tell people to "Make It Happen" when they tell how bad they want to do something. Like, it's just something I feel like I need to do. I want to become someone else's motivation like Kanye West was to me. When I retire from whatever I'm doing and write a book or something and do book signings I want a kid to walk up to me and be like "Yo! You're like one of my biggest inspirations ever!" and to hear about him later going off and doing something world changing. I just want to help change the world... or at least the people in it. And that's what I want to do with this brand. I want to prove that it's possible to have nothing and make something out of it. I mean you got to have the right mindset and you got to stay focus.  I'm not perfect I mess up a lot! I mean a lot and the results are never pretty either but those mistakes you make and the trials life sends you are what make you stronger, more humble. So, if I can just become the motivation for someone to become someone greater than me would be my dream come true.

LYFE: What advice you would give to those is aspiring to do the same?

Tucker: Like I always say, Make It Happen!

Thank You Tucker for doing this interview & Check out his blog. Continue for more pictures.

Poetry/ Roderick Palmer

1/18/2012
Happy Wednesday my dear readers, Did you enjoy the interview with Joshua Martin? While we are on that topic..Did you see the video "I Am Constance" well Roderick Palmer wrote the wonderful poem and I was shocked because it was awesome a guy wrote it. Now I'm going to let him tell you about himself a little bit.

"Hello, I'm Roderick Palmer. I'm 19 years old and I'm an aspiring photographer and writer. My love for writing started in the summer of 2009. That same year, I was heavily influenced by one of my favorite English teacher's named Mr. Bray. In 2001, when I was 9 years old, my sister Dorrett passed away from Hopkins lymphoma. As you can imagine, it changed my whole perspective of life. Dorrett, despite being sick, refused to let cancer dictate her life. She never blamed God, nor did she blame anyone of our family members. Through the pain that I watched my sister experience, and through the pain that I experienced myself, I was determined to do something great or worth living for in my life. Writing is something that we all can do, but if you're not passionate about what you're writing about, you might as well not write about it at all."

In case you missed the poem here it is and not only that, here is the video in case you missed it here

 "I Am Constance"

As the sun rubs against my skin, I wonder through the garden
The sun is high, powerful and radiant
My heart yearns to mimic its light
The trees sway so effortlessly,
I am in search of purpose, where might I find it?
Is it located deep in the soil, where my heart blossomed?
Is it located somewhere on the moon, in the craters of the darkness
No... The beauty of nature makes me question my own existence
What will I accomplish in this life, before my light begins to fade?
And in my moment of curiosity, the wind begins to brew
My hair once bound breaks free
The clouds begin to roar in dominance,
What is the earth trying to tell me?
 I stand still,
As the rain slides down my skin,
I tilt my head back, I let go of everything:
I have let go of my past, I no longer fear the future
With each drop,
My purpose in life becomes clearer
I am no longer the most delicate flower in the garden
I have found serenity in myself
